Higher Spin vs. Renormalization Group Equations    [PDF]

We present a variation of an earlier attempt by Douglas et al. to relate renormalization group equations to higher spin equations with the aim of uncovering more of the structure underlying the AdS/CFT-correspondence. We work with a scalar field theory in 3 dimensions. In this case we show that the linearized renormalization group equation can be mapped to the Vasiliev higher spin equations for a certain subset of couplings. We analyze obstruction to map non-linear terms to the Vasiliev equations and discuss the renormalization group interpretation of higher spin gauge transformations.
