Exploiting the recent lattice results for the infrared gluon propagator with light dynamical quarks, we solve the gap equation for the quark propagator. We thus extract the order parameters for chiral symmetry breaking (constituent quark mass, quark-antiquark condensate and the pion leptonic decay constant) as well as confinement (complex conjugate mass-like singularities) which is intimately tied with the analytic properties of the Schwinger functions of quantum chromodynamics (QCD). We demonstrate that there are clear signals of chiral symmetry restoration and deconfinement when the number of light quark flavors exceeds a critical value of N_f^c ~ 8.
