We consider the very strongly coupled large-N limit, in which the 't Hooft coupling grows with N. Based on various concrete examples, we conjecture such a limit is well-defined and is essentially identical to the planar limit, in the sense the order of the large-N limit and the strong coupling limit commute. For a wide class of large-N gauge theories, the very strongly coupled large-N limit and the ordinary planar large-N limit are smoothly connected, and the analytic continuation from the planar limit is justified. As a simple consequence of this conjecture, we reproduce a few properties of the six-dimensional (2,0) theory on S^1 from the five-dimensional maximal super Yang-Mills theory.
